About the role

Hours: 38 hours per week Shift pattern: 4 shifts per week, 7am - 5.30pm with a 60 minute unpaid break per shift, Requirement to work alternative weekends Pay: £13.75 per hour with annual review Reporting to: Head Cook Role Overview We are seeking a reliable and motivated Assistant Cook to support our kitchen team in delivering high-quality meals. The successful candidate will assist with food preparation, maintain excellent hygiene standards, and ensure smooth day-to-day kitchen operations. Key Responsibilities - Assist in preparing, cooking, and presenting meals in line with set menus and standards including IDSSI (modified diets) - Support the Head Cook with daily kitchen operations - Prepare ingredients (washing, chopping, portioning, etc.) - Ensure all food is prepared and stored in accordance with food safety regulations - Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, equipment, and work areas - Assist with stock control, including checking deliveries and rotating stock - Follow health and safety procedures at all times - Contribute to maintaining a positive and efficient working environment Benefits - Real Living Wage Employer - Excellent rates of pay - Hourly rate of £13.75 per hour - Enhanced pay for bank holidays. - Paid DBS. - During a shift of 8 hours or more a nutritious meal will be available. - Comprehensive Induction programme with ‘Buddy’ support for all new staff. - Funded training with access to Flexebee e-learning platform. - Specialist training available to all staff - Funded diploma courses (health and social care levels 2 & 3). - Well-being champion based in the home (listening service). - Free onsite Parking. - Rewarding Career and options for career progression - Discounted bus pass scheme (Trent Barton bus) - Cycle to work scheme - Access to apply for a Blue Light card which offers savings on various high street and grocery stores. - Company pension scheme. - Overtime availability across the group of nursing homes.
