About the role

We are looking for a caring, reliable and enthusiastic Cook to join our team at Taliesin Residential Home. Food plays an important part in the wellbeing and quality of life of our residents, and we are looking for someone who takes pride in preparing nutritious, home-cooked meals that residents enjoy. As our Cook, you will be responsible for planning, preparing and serving meals for our 18 residents. You will work closely with residents and management to create menus that reflect residents' preferences, seasonal produce and individual dietary requirements, including specialist diets and modified-texture diets in line with IDDSI guidance. This role requires someone who is able to work independently, manage their workload effectively and maintain high standards within the kitchen. You will also work closely with the wider staff team to ensure residents receive the highest quality care and support. We encourage residents to have a say in the meals they receive and enjoy celebrating events throughout the year, including St David's Day, Valentine's Day, Halloween and other special occasions. We like our menus and food presentation to reflect these celebrations and help create a warm, homely environment for everyone who lives at Taliesin. Key Responsibilities: Plan, prepare and serve nutritious, well-balanced meals for residents on a daily basis. Develop menus in consultation with residents and management. Cater for a range of dietary requirements, including diabetic diets and modified-texture diets. Ensure meals are prepared within budget while maintaining quality, variety and nutritional value. Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen organisation at all times. Complete all required food safety, health and safety and environmental health documentation. Manage stock levels, order supplies and minimise food waste. Ensure kitchen equipment and facilities are cleaned and maintained appropriately. Support themed events and celebrations throughout the year through menu planning and food preparation. Requirements: Essential Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (NVQ Level 1 or equivalent). Good understanding of food hygiene and safe working practices. Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation. Good spoken and written English communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families and colleagues. A genuine interest in working with older people and vulnerable adults. Strong work ethic and a reliable, organised approach to work. Desirable: Previous cooking or catering experience. Experience working within a care, healthcare or hospitality setting. Driving licence. Benefits: Competitive hourly rate of £12.71 – £13.25, dependent on experience. Workplace pension scheme. Training and development opportunities. Free parking. Uniform provided. Statutory holiday entitlement. About Taliesin Residential Home: At Taliesin, our residents are at the heart of everything we do: Every one of us makes a difference and together we make things better. We are dedicated to providing care and support for older people. Since opening in 1990, Taliesin has focused on creating a comfortable, homely environment where residents are treated with dignity, respect and kindness. As a small residential home with 18 residents, we are able to provide truly person-centred care and build meaningful relationships with the people who live here. We believe that every member of our team contributes to residents' wellbeing and quality of life. Taliesin is located in the heart of Tonypandy, close to the high street, river and train station, making it easily accessible for staff and visitors. The home also benefits from a lovely garden and shared spaces that residents are encouraged to enjoy as their own. If you enjoy cooking and would like to make a genuine difference to the lives of our residents, we would love to hear from you.
