Sous Chef | Anglers Tavern

Set on the banks of the Maribyrnong River, Anglers Tavern is a high-volume, high-energy venue in Melbourne’s Inner West. With a strong reputation for great food, functions, events and busy year-round trade, we’re looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join the kitchen leadership team.

This is an opportunity to work alongside an experienced Head Chef, lead a talented kitchen team and play a key role in delivering a high-quality food offering across busy services, functions and peak trading periods.

The Opportunity

As Sous Chef, you’ll be a key part of the kitchen leadership team, supporting the Head Chef across the day-to-day operation while taking ownership of service and the team when required.

You’ll help drive food quality, consistency and kitchen standards while creating a positive, accountable and high-performing team environment.

What you’ll be responsible for:

• Supporting the Head Chef with the day-to-day kitchen operation
• Leading the kitchen team during busy services
• Ensuring food quality, consistency and presentation are maintained
• Assisting with ordering, stock control, food costs and minimising wastage
• Supporting rostering and effective labour management
• Training, mentoring and developing junior chefs
• Maintaining high standards across busy service periods and functions
• Ensuring food safety, hygiene and kitchen compliance standards are met
• Assisting with menu execution and seasonal menu changes
• Stepping up and taking ownership of the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence
• Helping create a positive, respectful and accountable kitchen culture

About You

We’re looking for a passionate and hands-on Sous Chef who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and enjoys being part of a strong kitchen leadership team.

You’ll bring:

• Previous Sous Chef or strong Senior CDP experience in a high-volume venue
• Experience leading a kitchen team during busy service
• Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking and kitchen operations
• Good understanding of food costs, stock control and wastage
• Excellent organisation and communication skills
• A hands-on approach and passion for quality food
• Experience working across functions and high-volume trading periods
• The ability to remain calm, organised and solutions-focused under pressure
