What you will have an opportunity to do: Kitchen Steward Department: Food & Beverage Reports to: Executive Sous Chef Status: Non-Exempt Position Summary The Kitchen Steward supports the culinary and restaurant teams by maintaining clean, safe, and organized kitchen and employee dining areas. This position is responsible for washing and properly storing dishes, cookware, utensils, and equipment, as well as maintaining floors, work surfaces, trash areas, and other back-of-house spaces. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate the dishwashing machine and ensure it is clean, stocked, and functioning properly. Check soap, sanitizer, and other cleaning chemicals at the beginning of each shift and notify leadership when supplies are needed. Scrape, wash, sanitize, air-dry, sort, and properly store dishes, glassware, silverware, pots, pans, trays, and kitchen utensils. Keep dishwashing stations, counters, drains, sprayers, disposals, and surrounding work areas clean and organized. Check and clean dish machine filters and confirm that gauges and chemical dispensers are operating properly. Sweep and mop kitchen floors throughout the shift. Clean floor mats and make sure they are safely positioned and free from grease, trash, and damage. Clean worktables, walls, refrigerators, equipment surfaces, and other assigned kitchen areas. Empty trash and recycling frequently, replace liners, and move waste to designated disposal areas. Clean and sanitize trash containers as needed. Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas. Maintain the cleanliness of the employee dining area, including floors, furniture, refrigeration, carts, and equipment. Stock the employee dining area for meal service and remove dirty dishes after service. Follow all food safety, sanitation, chemical-handling, and workplace safety procedures. Report damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, or supply needs to kitchen leadership. Complete other duties as assigned to support kitchen and restaurant operations. Qualifications No previous kitchen or stewarding experience is required. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and workplace safety. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Must obtain and maintain a valid Washington State Food Worker Card. Physical Requirements This position regularly requires standing and walking for extended periods, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting or carrying kitchen supplies, dishes, cookware, and trash. The employee must be able to safely perform the essential duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work Environment The Kitchen Steward works in a busy commercial kitchen environment and may be exposed to heat, steam, water, cleaning chemicals, wet floors, sharp objects, and varying temperatures. Proper safety procedures and required protective equipment must be used at all times. Schedule Schedules are based on business needs and may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Employees are responsible for reviewing their posted schedule, arriving on time, and obtaining leadership approval for any schedule changes.
